Hello!
SJSD has about $6 million as part of the American Rescue Plan Elementary and Secondary Education Relief Fund, which is also known as ARP ESSER. The funds must be spent in a three year window and must address the impact of the pandemic and the immediate needs of scholars and families. We will hold a FACEBOOK Live event on Thursday, July 29, at 10:00 AM to inform and answer questions.
SJSD is committed to providing approved ventilation systems and ensuring that each school is equipped with all necessary PPE and sanitizing items necessary in the classroom. The district is now looking for parent, scholar, educator, and community leader input about ways to spend this funding.
The Survey will collect your ideas about additional hours for School Nurses, School Liaisons, Paraprofessionals in the classroom, paraprofessionals on the bus, Social Workers, along with possible increased mental health supports. You can also provide feedback regarding your student priorities for tutoring/mentoring programs, importance of wi-fi on busses for long bus routes, after school programs, summer school programs, extended learning opportunities, and online class options.

If you have additional input that is not reflected as part of the survey, please email Trevor directly at tolsen@sjsd.org.

If you see a group of people with "Hearts Of America" and "Young Living" on their T-shirts, you will know they are the wonderful Angels here in Monument Valley providing solar power to light a room and charge chromebooks. This is the third year Mylo Fowler, a Navajo from our community, has brought non-profit organizations to Monument Valley to help with some of the challenges families have been facing. Misty Romero and Larry Holiday have been instrumental in taking care of the logistics of this project. They've selected families and are making arrangements for the installations. "They need lights to further their education, like reading a book and doing their homework. They can be together as a family to play board games after dark, too," said, Misty. Misty observed the joy the solar project brought the family and the teamwork displayed. "Everyone came together to install the panel and lights and then shared Navajo fry bread with Spam. It made me feel welcomed and part of the family." Thank you, Mylo, Allie Plihal and Jackie Skinner, and all the volunteers for sharing your time and labor of love with us here in Monument Valley.
