7. Apply to Scholarships
Start by looking at our San Juan High School Counselor's Corner scholarship page. We have taken the time to list local, state, and national scholarships for you, but there are thousands more out there that aren't listed!
Look at your college choice and see what options they have on their index and for private scholarships. This can help you decide what school you can afford based on what scholarships they can offer you.
Dixie - - Snow - - SUU - - USU - - UVU - - Weber - - Westminster
The most important thing to remember is: The more scholarships you apply for, the more money you stand a chance of winning for college!
How to get started:
Make a list of all the great things about you. This will help you during the application process. Scholarship committees are looking for students who:
-have financial hardships
-are engaged in the community through service/volunteer work
-have demonstrated leadership skills
-are culturally diverse
-have overcome hardships
-are outstanding athletes
-have high index scores (a graph that has your GPA on one side and your ACT on another and then where they meet. This is how most schools give their academic scholarships.)
Fill out the Senior Accomplishment Sheet, give it to the counselor today in class or turn it into the scholarships desk and keep a copy for yourself to help you as you continue to fill out scholarships.
Be the student that is deserving of scholarship funds and be sure to thank those who offer you scholarship money. Don't assume so many students are applying that you don't have a chance. You'd be surprised; apply!
8. Accept your offers
Accept any admission and scholarship offers before deadlines. You can do that on your school accounts or through the scholarship committees.
If you do not plan on going to college the fall semester after high school graduation, or plan on going on a religious mission, you need to defer you admittance/scholarship offers so that you do not loose those opportunities. By deferring, you will not be required to reapply and any deferrable scholarships (because not all are) will be waiting when the student is ready to return to school.
Here are the links to defer:
9. Find Housing.
Decide if you want to on or off campus, or with a friend or family
If you are going to live on campus apply through the college on their housing webpage.
Many Colleges have websites to search to find community housing. If not you can often find housing through facebook or calling the apartments directly to see if they have any openings. START EARLY!!!! Many colleges are have shortages of housing right now! So get on it quick before its all gone!
10. Register for Classes
It's time to apply for housing and classes.
This is a good time to meet with your counselor, GEAR UP/TRIO counselors, or college counselors to see what your options are.
11. Send in your Final Transcript After Graduation
You've graduated!
At graduation you were handed a copy of your final transcript. It is now your responsibility to send this in to your college so they can finalize everything.

Scholarship deadlines- stay focused and don't miss them!
